And God cares about the cows....

Tuesday night, we discovered our washer had died and so we had to go 'washer shopping'. It was supper time, and other things were happening so needless to say we needed to grab supper fast and go shopping. We had some Chick-fil-a coupons and decided to head over to our favorite kid-friendly restaurant. When we got there we were excited to find out it was Kids Night. Yea for cheap meals! When we got in, we saw they had a craft table, balloons, and a coupon for ice cream for completing the craft. How cool is that? So as Esther and I were making the Valentine together (enjoying a great family night together), the cow came out to wave to all the kiddos. Esther gets frantic and starts crying, screaming, and clinging to me. They had to ask the cow to stay in the other part of the building for us. :) (In the meantime the cow ran into Stephen and Jonas in the other section and Jonas loved him!) For the rest of our dining experience Esther would not let go of either of us. Even after the cow 'went home'. She was still so worried about the cow. We kept trying to explain it was just a person dressed up, just like she dresses up like princesses, etc. and there was NO REASON FOR FEAR. It still didn't help. Poor thing was still traumatized as we were driving away. I was trying to explain to her (from Matthew 6) the principle that just like God cares for the birds, and they don't worry about anything, neither should we. Anyways, it all went downhill from there, as I was trying to explain God cares for birds she interrupted and said, "And God cares about the cows?". Stephen and I started laughing and then she thought we were laughing at her, when really we were laughing at me trying to explain such big concepts to a little mind. So Stephen took over for me (he's so much quicker at knowing what to say than me) and said I Timothy 1:7 says, "For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and sound mind." Anyways, we laugh about the cow, but really we as adults are no different, we worry and fret about things that never come to pass and act as if God isn't in control. If I can trust Him for my salvation, I know I can trust Him with the everyday affairs of life- big and small. So just a little lesson for the young and old- learning to continue to trust our Saviour. Here's how Esther's prayer went before bed tonight: (she has just started praying 'on her own' and it's so cute.)
"Dear Lord, Please help us to do what's right, thank you for letting us have a safe day, thank you for forgiving our sins and dying on the cross, help us not to complain and argue, and help me to have a good rest tonight, and help us....not to be afraid...of the...Chick-fil-a...cow." :) Amen!

Excellent illustration. Thank you for taking the time to share your life as parents and let us glean from your experience. Poor little Esther. We all have some cows we need victory over! We'll pray for her.

Thanks for sharing this sweet story! I hear ya, we are the same exact way when it comes to attempting to explain theological concepts to Chloe's little brain. Glad to hear we aren't the only ones!

Our fears are just as irrational as Esther's. Thanks for the good reminder of God's love and character!

Funny, Audrey saw the cow (which we have seen at our mall) and she said "I love the cow." Such different girls!

Sounds like last year when Kayla got all frantic when we were at Chuck-E-Cheese's and "the mouse" showed up. She was having the best time playing until then. We were telling someone about Chuck-E-Cheese's and Kayla chimes in, "I love Chuck-E-Cheese's but not the mouse!." She hadn't forgotten!

But you're right in that our fears are just as irrational even though they seem so real to us. I needed that reminder too.

And I loved her prayer!
