Redeeming the Time..

The past few weeks God has been teaching me about Redeeming the Time. There have been so many illustrations to me and reminders recently to make every moment count for eternity. Sometimes it just involves choosing things that are good, better, or best. We've done some things to make those choices easier, yet there are still things that are screaming to be done and it seems there's not time! So I've been looking at things that I can eliminate. Stephen recently challenged the teens on the same thing. This summer we're doing a "Don't Waste Your Life" Study for our Friday Night Fellowship. I can't wait! We all struggle with different time-wasters. Video-games, texting, movies, and tv are not a temptation for me. However, blogging and facebook (you know the social things) are. So for the summer I will not be on facebook- Stephen will still have an account, because he announces activities for our ministry on there. As far as blogging, not like I'm a real regular anyway, but I'd like to start that again in the Fall. What I will spend my time doing is reading, studying the Word first and foremost. I am in the book of Mark right now studying the Life of Christ. I want to continue reading some of the great books that I've started...like Married to A Difficult Man- The Uncommon Union of Jonathan and Sarah Edwards. This book has been fascinating and I've enjoyed reading several chapters already. Stephen bought it for me. :) I'm also working on A Place of Quiet Rest. I have already read this year: Duties of Parents, Heaven at Home , Don't Make Me Count to Three (for the 2nd time :), Do Hard Things. I love reading. It enriches what I'm doing and gives me a fresh perspective. This summer, Stephen and I have both started running again, so we have a road race June 20 we have to get ready for. Thanks to a friend's help, we are endeavoring to make better eating choices for our family, so I have to work on some things in those areas also. Also on the agenda is some home improvement projects. Yippee skippee! Don't we all love those? We still have only been in our home for 9 months, so there's lots of improvement projects still waiting to be done. Among the other things we will be doing in ministry, Stephen is taking a group to NYC for a Mission Trip and so there's lots of prep involved with that. We are taking a group to the Wilds in July. I'm getting out of breath thinking about it all. We are exciting to see what God will help us accomplish by His grace. So at the end of the summer I want to look back and say "we redeemed the time!"

Isn't eliminating good things the hardest? That's what's so difficult for me -- seeing the beneficial and enjoyable activities as time-wasters.

I'll miss reading your blog posts but I'm proud of you for making such a wise decision!

We will miss you but I admire your "sacrifice" to make room for better things.

Shannon, I have had the exact same thing on my heart. There is so much I could write...but it will have to be another time. I still hope we can catch up by phone sometime. Miss you!
